Time Management

This month we continue to review the three manufacturing skills which we believe are primary skills which enable the next generation to win in manufacturing. This month is Time management.

Time management is doing what you need to do when you need to do it. Blake learns a lot about that through his chores list – organizing what he needs to do and when he could do it throughout the week to make sure he could play with his cousins. At MAKE we encourage time-based building challenges to highlight why time management matters in manufacturing.

We have three tips as you support your Future Maker through the development of time management.

  • Teach Planning and Prioritizing Together: Decision making directly relates to successful time management.

  • Help Kids Learn How Long Things Take: Discuss the time needed for a specific activity, task or errand.

  • Use Tools That Match Their Age: Provide the right tools to manage time and help make time visible and manageable.

Our final piece of advice to lead with clear expectations and consistent follow through. As your Future Maker applies time management skills, provide direct reminders that reinforce accountability and trust. Success comes from doing the work, managing the time, and following through.
